Hate Razor Bumps? Start-up Releases A Skarp Laser Razor To Help With That

Ok, so it looks a lot like a regular razor, but the Skarp actually contains a tiny laser that could help prevent shaving irritations and skin damage.

A new start-up company, Skarp Technologies, has invented the world’s first laser razor that is said to eliminate irritation, razor burns, and ingrown hairs.

The Skarp razor does not require the use of any expensive cartridge replacements and can be used with very little water usage (sometimes no water is required at all).

The laser has a life of 50,000 hours and runs on a single AAA battery which will last about a month depending on use. The laser is low power and safe on the eyes.

How it was developed

The razor technology company was founded by Morgan Gustavsson MBBS and Paul Binun.

Over 25 years ago, Morgan invented Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) which is current hair removal and dermatology treatment method. In 2001 he had thoughts of creating a laser razor and finally, after eight years of research discovered a wavelength that could cut any color hair. Wavelengths of light had already been discovered that could cut through dark hair, but finding a way to cut light hair was proving incredibly difficult.

The chromophores (particles that absorb certain wavelengths of light) in the hair that would be cut when hit with a particular light wavelength, making the technology possible.

Skarp Technologies launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for production. In just two days it reached its initial funding goal of $160,000 is now exceeding $3 million.

You can pre-order a Skarp razor for $189 on Kickstarter. Expected delivery in March 2016.
