This Helicopter And Jet Hybrid Aircraft May Change The Way We Travel

Is it a private jet? Is it a helicopter? It’s the TriFan 600.

Colorado-based start-up, XTI Aircraft Company, wants to develop an aircraft that may change what we know about aviation.

The TriFan 600 is a six-seat fixed-wing airplane that is designed to fly as fast, as high, and as far as business jets, but with the ability to takeoff and land vertically, like a helicopter.

The company has been designing the aircraft behind-the-scenes for over two years to become the first commercial, high-speed long range VTOL airplane capable of door-to-door travel.  “No traditional jet, helicopter or other aircraft opens the same world of possibilities,” said David Brody, founder and chairman of XTI.

Check it out in the video below.

The airplane will employ three-ducted fans for vertical lift-off and be constructed from lightweight materials. “In seconds, the two wing fans rotate forward for a seamless transition to high-speed flight,” according to the company’s crowdfunding campaign.

The aircraft reaches cruising speeds in 90 seconds and when it’s time to land, the craft does so vertically on top of a helipad sized paved surface.

“The TriFan 600 is a new type of aircraft, with an entirely new combination of capabilities potentially saving hundreds of hours a year,” XTI boasts.
