Ford Halts Production on Electric F-150—Potential Battery Problem

Ford stopped production of its top-selling electric pickup, the F-150 Lightning. Pre-delivery vehicle inspections discovered a possible battery problem.

According to Ford, this doesn’t apply to you if your Lightning is sitting at the dealership or in your driveway. So far, Ford hasn’t provided information on the battery—related issue or how serious or minor it might be. The company has sold 18,000 Lightning pickups since the spring of 2022. They build the F-150 truck at a factory in Dearborn, Michigan, outside Detroit.

Ford recently announced a $3.5 billion investment in a new battery plant in Michigan which is set to start production in 2026.
