Functional Bluetooth-enabled Star Trek Communicator now a reality

Last year, The Wand Company revealed a replica of the Star Trek: The Original Series Bluetooth Communicator at San Diego Comic-Con. The accurate and highly detailed working replica is now a real thing and anyone can own one. Shipping begins this month.

What do you mean its functional?

While Star Trek may have been a futuristic series, technology has advanced in such a way that many items can actually be brought to life.

The Communicator is an advanced Bluetooth enabled speakerphone that is compatible with all Bluetooth enabled communications equipment worldwide like smartphones and music players.

The device was created from 3D scans of the last known hero prop and made of die-cast zinc, CNC machined aluminium, iridescent coated jewels.

The Communicator pairs with any Bluetooth compatible mobile phone and can be answered in the same way you’d answer your flip-phone (not that anyone still has those, right?).

Like we mentioned, the Communicator is not a toy — it’s fully functional, permitting near instantaneous person-to-person communication at a considerable distance. When paired with a music player, the Communicator can also be used as a wireless speaker.

To create the device, the developers used 3D scans of one of the last remaining Communicator hero props from the 1960s Original Series television show, and put some detailed finishing touches on it.

According to The Wand Company, “The Communicator is robust enough to be used in play and cosplay. With its authentic sound effects and original voice clips, the Communicator provides plenty of opportunity for in-universe interaction and fun, and of course its Bluetooth functionality enables it to be used exactly as it was always intended – as a person-to-person communications device.”

For hardcore fans, a Communicator that really works is a dream come true after waiting 50 years.

The Communicator can be bought from one of the following official retailers for about $150.00.
