“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Group Executive in charge of Network Entertainment of Sony Corporation.

Since SCE launched the first PlayStation in 1994, the company has developed a plethora of other video-game related services like the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Plus membership services, and even the PlayStation Now streaming service.

Over the 2015 holiday season alone, the company sold 5.7 million units worldwide. The growth of PlayStation has led to the formation of this new entity with one focus in mind: PlayStation.

SIE will begin operations on April 1, 2016 and will be headquartered in San Mateo, California, while also establishing global business operations in Tokyo and London.
