Backbone device reliably and efficiently transports mission-critical data

Belden has released a new MPLS-TP based backbone switch family with provisioning software – the Hirschmann DRAGON PTN with HiProvision. This new backbone network device reliably and efficiently transports mission-critical data and guarantees bandwidth in wide area networks through its support of MPLS-TP technology.

“Ethernet-based technologies are simple, interoperable, predictable and cost efficient compared to complicated and expensive legacy solutions such as SDH/SONET, making MPLS-TP a preferred choice for large-scale networks,” said Vinod Rana, Product Manager at Belden. “The new DRAGON PTN with HiProvision enables customers to predict the behavior of data as it goes across the network, guaranteeing bandwidth and ensuring uninterrupted communication.”

Guaranteeing bandwidth with the same deterministic behavior as SDH/SONET eliminating their disadvantages for packet based communication, MPLS-TP technology equips network architects to design efficient and cost-effective networks and provide a migration path for legacy equipment. With DRAGON PTN and HiProvision, engineers get a fully integrated Ethernet-based backbone transmission system that allows them to:

  • Seamlessly integrate with legacy systems through multiple modular, redundant interface options and port types.
  • Secure a complete, integrated solution for provisioning and managing large networks from one vendor, making upgrades and implementation efficient and streamlined.
  • Easily configure and manage network complexity with HiProvision network provisioning software.
  • Create redundant networks integrating best-of-breed technologies from wide area networking and Industrial Ethernet networking.

DRAGON PTN with HiProvision is best suited for transportation applications that rely on mission-critical data transfer, including mass transit systems, railways and metro stations. The backbone device is also ideal for other harsh industrial environments, such as power transmission and distribution and oil and gas applications.
