Pulse Electronics Announces NBase-T Compliant Ethernet ICMs

Pulse Electronics has announced a series of multi-Gigabit NBase-T compliant RJ45 connector modules for 2.5GBase-T and 5GBase-T applications. The NBase-T technology offers a cost-effective solution for boosting speed on existing Cat5e and Cat6 networks from 1-5Gb for distances up to 100m. Pulse’s Integrated Connector Modules (ICMs) meet IEEE802.3bz specifications and are compatible with 100/1000Base-T specifications.

Pulse ICM designs contain transformers, chokes, and other electronic components to eliminate common mode noise, provide a high level of signal integrity, and reduce the risk of PHY damage due to high voltage surge. The shielding incorporates EMI spring fingers, which act as a path of least resistance to electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) and help lower EMI emissions.

“Pulse ICMs are compatible for current and voltage mode PHYs and are qualified at major PHY vendors including Aquantia, Broadcom, and Marvell. Pulse parts have multiple LED options, have options to support Power over Ethernet, and are compliant with IEEE802.3af (PoE) and IEEE802.3at (PoE+) standards,” stated Muhammad Khan, Sr. Product Manager, Pulse Electronics Network Business Unit.

The ICMs use through-hole technology for wave soldering and are designed to withstand lead-free solder reflow temperatures up to 260°C. These ICMs are RoHS compliant and UL approved.

The parts currently are in high volume production and ship in trays. They are available in single port (1×1), 4-port (1×4 and 2×2), 8-port (2×4), 12-port (2×6), and 16-port (2×8) configurations.
