Roomba 980 Is A Wi-Fi Enabled Vacuum That Allows You To Clean Your Home From Anywhere

Robotics company iRobot has just released its newest addition to robotic home appliances — the Roomba 980.

The Roomba 980 is the first vacuum cleaner to employ adaptive navigation technology with visual localization to power clean your home via smartphone app.

The Roomba 980 can clean for up to two hours on a single charge, then go recharge itself, and resume cleaning, all while users operate the device from their smartphones, wherever they are.

“Roomba 980 is the next big step as it marks iRobot’s first cloud connected product with mapping capabilities for the consumer market. Leveraging the cloud and mapping technologies, robots gain a better understanding of their environment, and customers are provided with more control. Looking ahead, these technologies will also enable expanded capabilities for connected robots in the smart home,” said Colin Angle, chairman and chief executive officer of iRobot.

The company combined traditional iRobot technology with new sensors to allow the Roomba 980 to clean an entire floor level in your home. The vacuum uses localization and mapping (vSLAM®) technology, part of iRobot’s new iAdapt 2.0 Navigation with Visual Localization, which allows it to create  maps of its environment as it cleans in order to keep track of its own location until it has finished the job. Roomba 980 cleans in open areas by moving in parallel lines, but can adapt to its environment when necessary, navigating under furniture and around clutter.

To operate iRobot, users can download the HOME App (available for iOS and Android) on a smart device and connect Roomba 980 to their Wi-Fi network. What this means is that you can actually start cleaning when you aren’t home.  Roomba 980 can also be scheduled to clean up to seven times a week from the familiar Smartphone interface.

Roomba 980 can be programmed to function on different cleaning modes like edge cleaning or Carpet Boost. The app also provides information about cleaning status and offers customized tips, as well as support.
