Universal IoT connector supported by modules, boards and systems

Portwell has announced broad support for the Universal IoT Connector (UIC), introduced by SGET (The Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies).

The SGET-defined software interface serves as a universal docking point for cloud services to embedded hardware.

Portwell is one of the initiators of the SGET standardization group, which accelerated the definition of the standard.

In order to guarantee rapid market penetration, Portwell supports the launch of the UIC with its comprehensive portfolio of modules, boards and systems.

Since UIC is available on Microsoft Windows 10 IoT and Linux, it is addressed to a very broad user base.

Portwell fully accommodates this approach as it covers the concept of UIC with a variety of processor classes from Intel Atom to Xeon.

This means that Portwell’s products, such as the Intel processor families Baytrail, Braswell, Apollo Lake, Skylake and Kaby Lake, offer great support module- and system-wise.

Portwell supports the SGET standards Qseven and SMARC as well as the PICMG standard COMexpress for modules. This means that UIC is currently available for 11 modules out of Portwell’s portfolio.

There are currently six boards, such as Mini-ITX, Nano-ITX, 3.5″ Embedded Board, PICMG 1.3 and ATX and a total of three fanless systems.

In order to realize fast and easy cloud connection, Portwell’s M2MGO PST system provides an out-of-the-box solution for OEMs who attach particular importance to time-to-market of new solutions.

RS4U-B641, a fanless system based on the COMexpress Module PCOM-B641, is powered by the latest Intel Atom processor Apollo Lake.

It is also designed for Windows 10 IoT, offers the functionality to be used as gateway or data concentrator and is suitable to be operated in an extended temperature range.

Portwell offers customer-specific adaptations of hard and software and addresses OEM’s in many markets including automation, medical, transportation, logistics, energy, retail and communications.
