Hive View indoor camera offers style as well as security

Yves Béhar, known for his sleek designs like the August smart lock and this Samsung TV, has applied his skills to Hive’s new indoor camera, as spotted by DesignBoom. The Hive View is a small detachable magnetic camera with 130° view, manual pan-and-tilt control, and the ability to send alerts to your smartphone when it detects motion or sound.

Hive View starts recording when it detects motion or sound in accordance to your sensitivity settings. Once detected, it’ll send notifications to your smartphone via the Hive app on both iOS and Android. Users can check in on the 1080p live streams whenever they want, or play videos captured from the past 24 hours. If you’ve got pets like a roaming dog or cat, then Hive is smart enough to recognize them and filter those alerts. It can also see in the dark at a distance of up to 16ft.

If you don’t want the camera to monitor your room all the time, you can schedule it to be active only during certain hours. The cube is also ultra portable at 56x56x56mm so you can detach it from the stand to use elsewhere if needed, though the battery only lasts about an hour. The camera comes with a choice of wall, shelf, or magnetic mounts.

The Hive View is available now in the US, Canada, Ireland, and Italy for £189 (around $256), or £319 for a two camera pack (around $432). There’s also an optional subscription service available for £4.99 a month (about $6.75) which gives you a 30-day camera history among other benefits.
