IoT board boosts color-HMI development for smart sensors and gateways

The HANI (HMI Arrow NXP IoT) development board from Arrow Electronics is designed for IoT node applications where more sophisticated user interfaces are required. It combines support for up to 7″ color displays, multi-protocol wireless connectivity, and a rich set of sensors for smart, connected devices that allow simple, direct user interaction including gesture control. The board is well suited for developing gateways or smart sensors for consumer, industrial or medical use cases.

HANI leverages the integrated LCD controller of NXP Semiconductors’ LPC54618 180MHz Arm Cortex-M4 microcontroller to support colorful, engaging user interfaces on TFT-LCD graphics panels ranging from small 3.5″ QVGA (240×320) up to 7″ displays with 800×400 pixels. The controller can also work with simple color or monochrome STN displays.

The board features rich connectivity including a Rigado R41Z IEEE 802.15.4 radio module with Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, Thread and Zigbee protocols, based on the NXP Kinetis KW41Z MCU. A Silex SX-ULPGN 802.11b/g/n module with 16Mbit SPI Flash built-in provides a WLAN gateway leveraging the Internet protocols, Cloud-services support, and integrated security engine of the Qualcomm QCA4010 WiFi IoT SoC. With an NFC reader based on the NXP CLRC663 also on-board, HANI streamlines development of devices that allow easy Bluetooth pairing, tag readers, or physical-web devices.

Integrated on-board sensors not only provide context awareness, but also include the NXP FXPQ3115BV bio-compatible precision pressure sensor suitable for medical devices like CPAP equipment, spirometers, inhalers or oxygen concentrators. MEMS motion sensors including NXP’s FXLS8471Q three-axis accelerometer and FXAS21002CQ three-axis gyroscope help developers add gesture control to their user interfaces, and support a wide range of context-aware functionality in combination with the NXP PCT2075GV temperature sensor and AMS TSL25711FN ambient-light sensor also provided.
