Chinese company Xiaomi has made a name for itself by selling high-end smartphones and other hardware, software, and Internet software in Asia, but now its getting into a new tech space.
The company today launched its first drone — the MI Drone. The drone will sell for $380 to $460 depending on video quality preference. The drone has hit social crowdfunding websites and the company will begin recruiting beta testers in July.
The Mi Drone is made of imported carbon fiber material and weighs just 140 g. It is equipped with 4K HD wide angle low distortion, Sony 12M CMOS sensors, 3-axis stabilization gimbal, and maintains sight error within±0.02°.
Its high-level PCB array antenna lowers the chance of losing control and its real-time tracking enables the auto-return function if a user loses MI drone’s signal.
To be safe, Xiaomi has also granted it auto-hover capabilities so that it will not pass the edges of “no-fly” zones.
The drone is operated by an accompanying Bluetooth controller that allows users to take photos, videos, set auto take-off and landing options, program auto-hover features, point flying, and plan routes.
According to Xiaomi’s official launch page:
“The most common problem faced when we’re playing with drone is it’s not handy to carry around. Look at our Mi Drone, all the components are there and it’s very simple to install it. Mi Drone uses a module design that is easy to disassemble and assemble. Mi Drone can be easily put into the bag and you may bring it to anywhere and start to discover the beauty of the world.”
